Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Xikou 25 km to the southeast of the Zhenan County Town, Shaanxi Province. It was named by the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences in 1963.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone and Clastics. Composed of dark-grey and grey-black thick-bedded limestones, grey and yellow-green quartz-fine-grained sandstone and sandy shale, with its basal part consisting of dark-grey massive limestone and clayey limestone. Thickness is 383 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the light-red quartz-sandstone at the top of the underlying Shuixiakou Fm

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the dark-purple and red pebble clayey limestone of the overlying Yundoutan Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in the Xikou-Yundoutan belt of the Zhenan County, Shaanxi Province and in the Yunxi area of Hubei Province (449 m).

Fossils

Yields Fusulinids such as Codonofusiella minuta, Reichelina pulchra, Dunbarula palaeofusulinaeformis; Brachiopods such as Tylplecta yangtzeensis, Squamularia grandis, Gubleria aff. hangi, Oldhamina subanshunensis, Leptodus tenuis; Corals such as Waagenophyllum sp.; and Foraminifera represented by Geinitzena pusilla, etc.
